2017 marked another accolade in the sports industry of tennis. On January 7, Qatar Exxonmobil Open celebrated its 25th anniversary tennis tournament with Novak Djokovic, world no. 2, as its reigning champion.
Qatar ExxonMobil Open is an annual tournament which is part of the Association of Tennis Professional World Tour and managed by Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF). The event was held in Khalifa Tennis Facility with a 7000 seating capacity.
Full turnkey solution was offered ranging from budgeting, consulting, design adaptation, project management, product delivery, project installation and execution.
As the chosen branding partner, a dedicated project team has been assigned. The team comprised of business development manager, project manager, project coordinator, production, installation and warehouse. They made sure that requirements were provided on time, in top quality and transform the venue into a home for the Qatar ExxonMobil fans and players alike.
More than 9,100 square meters of various materials were produced. Out of this, 80% were dye sublimated polyester B1 textile, 10% were pvc banner and 10% were pressure sensitive vinyl.
Project roll out and execution took 4 weeks to complete.
To mention some unique structures:
- Back lit Polyester SEG frames.
- Branding of the main feature wall with cut outs of players done in textile.
The success of this project was evident during the interview of QTF with the reigning champion, Novak Djokovic (January 2017), “Now it's the third year in a row that I'm in Doha and really pleased to start off the year in this tournament that now traditionally for some time has been voted the best for integrity. And deservedly so, because they have been really trying to make sure that every player feels like home. ” Likewise, William Conelly, a spectator, posted in QTF’s Facebook page (January 2017), “Kudos, Qatar Tennis! You do better every year!” These remarks confirm that the Qatar ExxonMobil Open project deserves to be entered in the FESPA roll- to-roll printed textile category.
silver winner: Animals on velvet cushion covers
Lovely drawings of animals printed on a smooth velvet fabric in polyester. The drawings are printed as placed prints, three in a row beside each other one and one on a roll-to-roll digital printing machine with Oeko- Tex product class 100 certified disperse inks.
The motifs are printed as a linear meter fabric and it is very difficult to print thin sharp lines on this velvet fabric. Here is the testimonial from the Swedish designer Nadja Wedin, www.nadjawedin.com “When I draw I seldom have a plan, composition and content is growing from my pen. To reach maximum blackness I always work with a thin ink pen. Every drawing therefore takes quite long time to finish and is a good lesson in patience. But my relation to the creative process is very meditative. The drawing is like living organisms, and it grows for each line I draw. I think it’s fascinating how small thin black lines can be so different in structure and content depending how you draw them. The coloring I mostly make with Copic and ProMarker. All my products emanate from my hand drawn sketches. Sometimes they are identical to the original; sometimes I process the drawings in the computer, for instances if I want to do a repeat pattern in order to print fabrics or wallpaper. Most of my artwork requires digital printing due to very fine lines and because I’m very accurate with color tints and gradation. I mainly print my cushion covers and fabrics by meter on a soft polyester velvet, which I like because it gives my prints almost a three dimensional impression, thanks to the deep blackness it can show. High quality and environmental care are core words for my brand Nadja Wedin design.
All products are made in Sweden by marketleading companies in their respective field. This production process is an active choice, based on care of resources and environment. A close and personal relation to my suppliers also gives the advantage of high quality and fast production.” This “Animal printed cushion covers” is a very good example of a collaboration between Tobex digital printing company and the designer Nadja Wedin, taken advantage of Tobex experience and the digital printing technique to print on demand by placing order nearly every week and with a large number of different motifs depending of order.
